What is MOPP? MOPP stands for Mission Oriented Protective Posture and it is a term used by the military to describe levels of protection that a person wears on their body to protect them from chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons. MOPP4 is the highest level of protection afforded to an individual, but it comes at a cost.  When someone is in MOPP4, they are wearing a lot of gear and mask and that interferes with their ability to do the mission by slowing them down, limiting their visibility, overheating them, etc.

In the case of this blog, I’m going to teach you MOPP as it relates to cybersecurity.  After reading this blog, you will learn how to “MOPP up” your network to protect it from hackers, malicious logic (malware), and other threats.  Cybersecurity, like MOPP, can also come at a cost.  The most secure computer in the world is one that is turned off, but that also makes it unusable.

Stay tuned for the next post where I’ll talk about the CIA triad.
